One of the original 48 constellations catalogued by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy. In Greek mythology the constellation was the Eagle that held Zeus thunderbolts. The Eagle was also sent by Zeus to kidnap Ganymede, a Shepherd boy who was taken to become Zeus cup bearer.
